Too Funny For Your Good?

Image
Your school probably had a class clown. He was liked by almost everyone and everyone wanted to hang out with him. Now ask yourself this: Was he reliable? Did people listen to his advice? The answer to both questions is most likely  "No." When writing copy, you should use humor to keep readers engaged and interested. You can achieve this by using right amount of humor — putting the prospects at ease and making them more receptive to your message. On the flip side, being too witty will make your writing more about you ( the writer )  than the product itself. The result is a loss of a potential customer due to them not taking your product seriously. No one wants to spend their hard-earned money on a product or company they don't take seriously. Try to be a multi-faceted person who can be both funny and insightful rather than a one-dimensional class clown.

Candied Apple: Five Ways to Sweeten Taglines for Apple Products

Image
I browsed Apple's site today and noticed the official taglines for their products. I was surprised to find myself underwhelmed by some of the taglines so I had an idea... Why don't I write my own and either elaborate on the pre-existing taglines or just start fresh with a new tagline? Here's what I came up with:: iPhone X Current tagline: Say hello to the future. My tagline: Evolution? Revolution? Both. iPad Current tagline: Like a computer. Unlike any computer. My tagline: Productivity. Meet Portability. Apple Music Current tagline: 45 million songs. Three months on us. My tagline: 45 million songs. Infinite joy. HomePod Current tagline: The new sound of home. My tagline: The true meaning of 'Home sweet home'. AppleTV 4K Current tagline: The 4K HDR era. Now playing. My tagline: The future of TV. Present in your home.

The Best Book For Beginner Copywriters: The Boron Letters

Image
Gary C. Halbert has been called "one of the greatest copywriter of all time". And his book "The Boron Letters" provides an insight into his personal and professional philosophies. The letters were written during Gary's stint in Boron Federal Prison and were addressed to his son, Bond. The personal and intimate feel of the letters kept me interested and receptive to its messages. While the book contains priceless nuggets of information about the copywriting trade, I was most affected by Gary's lessons on persistence and mental fortitude. After spending an afternoon with the book, I felt motivated to not just write copy, but to also reflect on my life.
